Q1. Who must have this
training?
A1. All dentists, dental hygienists, licensed practical
nurses, optometrists, podiatrists, and registered nurses; All physicians, physician assistants, and specialist
assistants who are licensed by New York State. See chart under General FAQ
Q2. How often must this
training be done?
A2. At
initial licensing and every four years thereafter at the time of license
renewal.
Q3. Where is the
requirement for this training found?
A3. For the first
group of professionals listed above (dentists, dental hygienists, licensed
practical nurses, optometrists, podiatrists, and registered nurses), the
citation is Section 6505-b of the Education Law. For physicians, physician assistants, and specialist
assistants, the requirement is found in Chapter 786 of the Laws
of 1992
Q4. Who provides the
training?
A4. New York
State licenses specific providers to give the training. Licensees’ credentials are reviewed at the
time of application to ensure competence to deliver the training. Laboratory Consultation Services, Inc.
lecturers and course writers have an average experience level with infection control of nearly 30
years.
Q5. What format is the training?
A5. This is at
the option of the trainer and trainee and can include formal classroom
lectures, video presentations, online courses, etc. Laboratory Consultation Services, Inc. provides both online
training on this website and group training in person.
Q6. Is the training
different for different professionals?
A6. Some
providers are only permitted by New York State to provide training to specific
professional groups. Laboratory
Consultation Services, Inc. is permitted to train all professions. The online course is the same for all
profession; the in-person course is customized for the audience group.
Q7. How long does
the course/training take?
A7. Most trainees
report times around 2 hours. Of course,
you can stop at any time and continue later when you have more time.
Q8. What happens
after I finish the course?
A8. There is a short quiz to help us (and you) ensure that you have command of the material. Answer the questions on the designated form and when you’re done, click submit.
Please note: the quiz is not submitted to any
regulatory authority and there is no "pass" or "fail"

steps: Go to the payment page and pay
the fee with a major credit card. Then fill out the demographics form so we

the information that I submit?
A11. The
information is maintained in our office and not shared with anyone outside of
Laboratory Consultation Services, Inc. nor used by us for any purpose unless
requested by New York State.
Q12. What happens
afterwards?
A12. Laboratory
Consultation Services, Inc. personnel review the demographics
information, file it in our database and prepare a Certificate of Completion.
Q13. When can I expect my
certificate?
A13. Your certificate will be sent to you in PDF format by email, usually within 24 hours of your completion of the course.
Q14. Do you report my results
to New York State?
A14. No. New York State
requires that licensed dentists,
dental hygienists, licensed practical nurses, optometrists, podiatrists, and
registered nurses report on a specified form (Form 1IC) to the
State Education Department at the address on the form.
Physicians, Physician Assistants and Specialist Assistants who are affiliated with a hospital should give a copy of their Certificate of Completion to the office of the hospital responsible for professional credentialing. Those not affiliated with a hospital should send a copy to:

Q15. Where do I get form 1IC?
A15. We send you a copy with your certificate; you may also download a copy from the State Education Department Office of the Professions.

certificate?
A16. Email us and we’ll replace it at no charge.
Q17. Is this course/training
eligible for continuing education credit?
A17. Yes. The number of contact hours depends on how long
the course takes you (not including any interruptions, submission of payment
and demographics, etc.). Our certificate shows two hours as this is the
experience of many of our trainees.
Q1. Who must have this
training?
A1. Since 1989, Chiropractors, Dental Hygienists, Dentists,
Optometrists, Physicians, Podiatrists, Psychologists, and Registered Nurses, as
well as School Administrators/supervisors, school service personnel, and
classroom schoolteachers.
Any person applying for a provisional or permanent certificate or
license valid for administrative or supervisory service, school service, or
classroom teaching service must have completed the coursework or training.
Note: Training received during medical residency does not satisfy the NYS training requirement. An individual who completes an out-of-state medical program unregistered by NYS who then receives training in a NYS residency program has not met the training requirement and must take additional training from an approved provider.
Effective
September 1, 2004, this requirement also applies to Licensed Clinical Social Workers
and Licensed Master Social Workers.
Effective
January 1, 2005, this requirement applies to Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family
Therapists, Creative Arts Therapists, and Psychoanalysts.

take the 2-hour mandated training. This includes teachers, administrators, pupil personnel staff and coaches. Teacher aides and
cafeteria staff are non-certified personnel and as such are not required to participate in the mandated 2-hour course.
